Tools to improve safety for BC’s working drivers
A new online safe driving website was recently launched by WorkSafeBC in partnership with the BCAA Road Safety Foundation. RoadSafetyAtWork.ca is aimed at employers whose workers are required to drive in the course of their work.
The website – developed in consultation with a range of public and private employers, along with representatives from industry health and safety organizations – features a host of tips and materials to help employers and workers stay safe while on the road and guides employers through five steps:
- Getting management to commit to improvements
- Reviewing the status of existing occupational road safety measures
- Identifying risks and hazards
- Developing strategies
- Making an action plan
Each step provides instructions, sample forms, and/or best practices for BC employers in order to reduce and eliminate motor vehicle incidents, regardless of a company’s size or industry. The practices apply for both drivers of commercial fleets, as well as those who use their own vehicles for business; otherwise known as the “grey fleet.”
With dozens of BC workers killed on the roads each year, RoadSafetyAtWork.ca will help employers take steps to protect their workers on the road and ensure each one of them gets home safely to their families.
The launch of RoadSafetyAtWork.ca is only the start, as work continues with the Health and Safety Associations to provide even more tools and resources such as employer outreach programs, advisory services and workshops.
