Know the work zone signs in BC

Work zone signs warn drivers of upcoming construction and maintenance work that may change traffic patterns. Drivers need to pay attention to the warnings and follow instructions on the signs. To keep everyone safe, obey traffic control persons, travel within the posted speed limit, stay well back from all equipment, and pass only when it is safe.

Traffic Control Person Ahead

Flagger Ahead

These signs warn drivers of traffic control persons (flaggers) on the road ahead. Slow down when passing through the work zone.


Crew Working Ahead

This sign warns drivers there are crews of workers on the road. Slow down when passing through the roadside work zone.


Construction Ahead

This sign tells drivers they are entering a construction zone. Drive with extra caution and be prepared for changes in the speed limit.


Prepare to Stop

This sign warns drivers they may be required to stop ahead. Slow down and watch for traffic control.


Single Lane Traffic

This sign tells drivers they are approaching a section of single lane alternating traffic. Slow down and watch for traffic control.


Lane Closure

This sign tells drivers they are approaching a closed lane. Adjust speed to merge with traffic in the lane indicated by the arrow.


Lane Closed Ahead

These signs indicate the left or right lane is closed ahead on a roadway that has two or more lanes travelling in the same direction. Slow down, begin to merge into the lanes that continue, allow other vehicles to merge safely, and be prepared to stop.


Detour Ahead

This sign lets drivers know there is a temporary traffic detour due to road work ahead.

This sign tells drivers the fine they face for speeding in a work zone.
