National Injury Prevention Day

Parachute’s Canada’s National Injury Prevention Day is a day to raise awareness around the importance of injury prevention and aid Canadians to live long lives to the fullest through education and advocacy. Health Canada recognizes this date as an official national Health Promotion Day.

Parachute Canada shares messages on the importance of injury prevention and encourages supporters to do the same, tagging their social media posts with the hashtags #ParachuteNIPD and #TurnSafetyOn.

Quick facts

  • Preventable injury kills more Canadian children than any disease, and more youth than all other causes combined.
  • One child dies, on average, every day from a preventable injury.
  • Teen drivers die in crashes at a higher rate than any other age group in Canada.
  • 40 percent of head injuries in children aged 10 to 19 occur during sports.
