Road Safety at Work attended the Public Works Association of BC conference September 16 – 18. Hosted at Sun Peaks Resort by the Municipal Safety Association of BC, this technical conference and trade show brought together municipal workers from across BC. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth to chat about road safety.
Congratulations to Wes Halliday from the City of New Westminster, who entered the draw at our booth and won a vehicle safety kit with one year of roadside assistance.
Wes understands the road is one of the most dangerous places for him and his colleagues. Whether they are working on the road, hitching up a vehicle to their tow truck, or simply driving, they need heightened awareness for the hazards they encounter.
Wes appreciates how the ConeZoneBC campaign raises public awareness. He noted that the “Slow Down and Protect Roadside Workers” as well as the “Slow Down for Tow Truck Drivers” messaging on overhead highway signs helps draw attention to the vulnerability of his colleagues and other roadside workers.
To help improve the safety of City of New Westminster staff when they are on the road, Wes plans to review the tools and resources available on the Road Safety at Work, ConeZoneBC and Shift into Winter websites.
