What it Takes to Keep 300,000 People Safe During a Special Event

MOTI interview pic Kathie Haidon is the City of Surrey’s Traffic Management Coordinator and Special  Events Traffic Management Coordinator.  Last year, the City of Surrey hosted 186  special events, 142 of which required traffic control.

 The city’s biggest event – the Vaisakhi Parade in April – attracted more than  300,000 people in one day, requiring 40 traffic control people, 85 police officers  and 80 security personnel.

 As traffic management and road safety is such a focus for Kathie, the Ministry of  Transportation and infrastructure recently chatted with Kathie about roadside  worker safety,  responsibilities, and what it takes to keep drivers and roadside    workers safe in  roadside work zones, also known as cone zones.
